Te whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity With a strong pipeline of exciting projects, our team is growing. We are looking for an intermediate-level HV / Primary Electrical Engineer to continue to grow and shape the success of our Power team and bolster our technical capability to deliver high voltage substation designs to an enviable list of transmission and distribution clients. This opportunity will allow you to be involved in major energy transition projects in New Zealand and Australia alongside a high performing team.
This position can be based in our Wellington office.

In this role, the key responsibilities include:
Design of high voltage substations and other related infrastructure (working with voltages from 3.3kV to 500kV High voltage cable sizing calculations and reticulation Work in collaboration with engineering and project teams to deliver timely and accurate documentation and reports Provide Concept and Detailed design and review of specifications, drawings etc. Maintaining expected current design standards as set by legislative requirements Carrying out quality checks and procedures Draw upon your own technical expertise, and those of the broader team to deliver high-quality technical advice to our client Contribute in a team environment and drive delivery excellence across the Power team Ko wai koe | About you You are a confident and capable engineer and looking to grow your career in design and project management.
Your technical skills are based on solid fundamentals and have been proven through the delivery of robust and innovative power engineering projects and designs. You experience and are comfortable leading teams and mentoring junior engineers. You will also have varied Electrical Engineering skills which will allow you to contribute to the power business in a broader sense.
Preferably, you will have proven capability across a range of the following areas:
Understanding of a range of engineering disciplines and experience in electricity heavy industrial high voltage distribution Have extensive experience within substation primary engineering position across HV substations design (up to 500kV ideally) Ideally have experience in use of engineering software in the design Understanding of design and how it impacts on construction Be organised, adaptable and able to think outside the box Have good interpersonal skills and manage stakeholder relationships Strong communicator; able to explain complex issues to a range of stakeholders (internal and external) Be results-oriented with good technical engineering basis in either heavy industrial transmission or distribution Relevant tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering A career with Beca will provide you with:
