As a seasoned Principal looking to step into a Policy Manager role, this is the perfect time to influence and advise positive social policy change for our Pacific peoples. You will work collaboratively to lead, advise, and influence decision making on key issues and opportunities to improve the medium to long-term wellbeing of Pacific Peoples in Aotearoa.

The Ministry for Pacific Peoples make a significant contribution to improve outcomes for Pacific Peoples. We bring the Pacific voice, perspective and understanding into the fabric of New Zealand government. We are the guardians and the caretakers of Pacific knowledge, culture, and identity, and we support and take stewardship over our Pacific communities and peoples. We have a key role in developing cross government collaboration and coordination of government's Pacific investments.
What you will do in this role:
Be responsible for leading the Ministry's stewardship role over Pacific Policy across government by providing high quality specialist advice and ensuring opportunities for influence
Bring your solid government network to support the Director of Policy to inform government policy development and activity participant in cross-system forums
Promote and identify new opportunities within your team to lead and influence future policy thinking
Lead from the front with robust development of policy papers and statements on key areas of government policy on behalf of the Ministry
Provide strategic advice to the Director, wider Policy team, Tautua, Ministers and key agencies on cross-government policy affecting Pacific peoples
What you will bring to this role:
Experience in leading and mentoring a team, demonstrating a commitment to career development and learning with alignment to Pacific competencies
A futuristic thought leader that captures long term strategic outcomes that align to positive Pacific people outcomes
Solid policy and/or government relations experience in a strategic policy, social policy or population-based focus, not for profit organisation, government department or political office
Excellent written communication and verbal skills, with the ability to confidently communicate with a variety of audiences
Good understanding of the machinery of government along with well demonstrated network of relationship across government
Strong cross-government stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to network and work collaboratively on complex policy issues
Experience in researching, developing, managing and delivering policy advice at a senior level
