With the expansion of critical care servicesacross Te Waipounamu we are delighted to announce a new critical carepharmacist role for Timaru Hospital (South Canterbury). The role will be working closely with the Director and the Charge NurseManager of Critical Care and the Manager of Pharmacy Services to develop andconsolidate clinical pharmacy services within critical care, ensuring the bestoutcomes for patients in the South Canterbury region.
Pharmacists are critical part of theMultidisciplinary Team (MDT) in ICU and there is robust evidence proving theirrole in optimising complex medicine therapies and preventing medicine relatedharm. Due to these extensive benefits, a dedicated and specialist ICU pharmacyservice is considered an essential component of a critical care team by key ICUorganisations across the world.
The Critical Care Unit / Intensive Care Unit(ICU) team cares for the most acutely unwell patients across all specialties.Timaru hospital critical care unit is a level two ICU and are capable of caringfor a combination of ICU, HDU (High Dependency) and CCU (Coronary Care)patients. The team is undergoing expansion with new critical care funding, andthey are very excited to welcome a pharmacist into their team.
You will also have the opportunityto collaborate and network with other ICU pharmacists across Te Waipounamu.
Critical care isgenerally considered an advanced practice or specialty role. However, if youare a newly qualified pharmacist, comprehensive critical care training andsupport will be available through a mentorship style model. There is alsofunding available to complete an approved critical care pharmacy course. Theskills the team are looking for is good communication skills, a great attitude,a keenness to learn, adaptability and resilience.
You will also be an integral member ofthe Timaru Hospital Pharmacy Team, with some roles in the wider hospital aswell as in the pharmacy dispensary, including working on the on-call roster.Additionally, there will be the opportunity to share your knowledge and skillswithin the Pharmacy Team and the wider hospital.
