Christchurch City Council

Job Function:

Details of the offer

Christchurch, CanterburyPermanentThe Council's shrub and tree nursery located at Harewood is responsible for the seed collection, propagation and production of the vast majority of plants required to support the Council's capital and maintenance programmes within the city's greenspaces.
We need a talented and enthusiastic specialist to join the Nursery Production team, working predominantly with smaller grade ornamentals and revegetation species to make sure the successful operation of the commercial nursery continues effortlessly and is timely and efficient.
You'll provide leadership and day to day support for the Nursery Production and Dispatch staff to meet the objectives of the nursery, including coordinating the team's daily activities to ensure a high standard of service and plant quality.
Your professional experience from a nursery background means you'll have skills in identifying, propagating and growing plants at a commercial scale, and you'll be excited at the opportunity to join a team that supplies for ecological plantings and also produces a range of exotic species.
As you'll be building and maintaining professional working relationships with stakeholders, groups and nursery visitors you'll have excellent communication and network skills and be pro-active around identifying opportunities to improve the nursery.
This is a hands-on role which includes plant maintenance, dispatch and deliveries. We also collect our own seed and cuttings for all of our native species, to make sure that the natural gene-pool is preserved using best horticultural practices along with the use of agrichemicals where necessary.
We expect to grow all species and grades to a high standard to enable our plantings to have the best start so you'll have a minimum of a level 4 National Certificate in Horticulture or equivalent along with at least four years' previous experience in a relevant area.
In return, we offer a huge variety to the work and plant life that you'll be exposed to. We're a small, supportive team where everyone gets stuck in and works together.
We know you have a love for providing quality vegetation for use in our beautiful city and enjoy an outdoors work environment. There is a busy schedule and physical workload that varies from job to job but it is highly rewarding and satisfying as you watch your work come to life.
Apply today to join our growing team.
