Parks Facilities / Grounds Specialist (Aquatic Facility Operator) City of Brookfield Job Description Purpose : The position of Park Facilities/Grounds Specialist – Aquatic Facility Operator performs related duties in the maintenance and improvement of Wiberg Aquatic Center, grounds and facilities/buildings, including operation of equipment. Provides miscellaneous support services for recreation programs, activities and events. This position performs customer service, semi-skilled and manual work. Essential Functions: Performs Wiberg Aquatic Center maintenance operations to include basic mechanical concepts involved in the functioning of swimming pool, understand all systems, equipment, and peripherals that are required to contain, circulate, filter, heat and treat swimming pool water, competence in all areas of water chemistry as it pertains to pools, ability to perform preventative maintenance and basic repair of equipment, knowledge of risk management and safety. Performs basic park building maintenance functions to include plumbing repairs, electrical and HVAC maintenance. Performs turf maintenance functions, including general mowing and trimming, weeding, fertilization, chemicals, watering, de-thatching aeration, top dressing, leaf raking and removal, seeding, sodding, and general clean up for parks, roadsides, parkways, and boulevards. Performs general buildings and grounds care, including maintenance, repairs, cleaning, refuse collection, painting, remodeling, snow removal, and salting on roads, lots and paths. Performs preventative maintenance and minor repair work of park vehicles and equipment. Performs general landscaping and horticulture work, including planting, pruning, trimming, weeding, mulching, fertilization and chemicals, watering, and brushing. Performs construction, renovation, maintenance, and preparation on various athletic and recreation facilities, including ball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts, ice rinks, trails. Constructs and/or installs various park facilities improvements and equipment, including playground equipment, trails, fencing, signs, picnic tables, benches. Provides miscellaneous and park maintenance function support services for recreation programs, special events, picnics as assigned. Operates various pieces of motorized equipment, trucks, and tools related to assigned duties including: dump trucks, backhoes, end loaders, brush chippers, and other heavy equipment. Promotes and maintains positive departmental public relations with other City departments, staff and the community in general. Responds or refers complaints concerning the operation and maintenance of City parks to the Parks and Forestry Superintendent. Provides training and instruction to summer or seasonal staff and oversees and assists other employees as assigned. Subject to call for emergency work and extra overtime hours may be required during the week, weekends, and holidays. Qualifications Requirements: Knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma. At least 2 years' experience in parks or landscape maintenance, grounds keeping, or closely related work. Must have an Aquatic Facility Operator certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment. Must have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) endorsement (Classes A, B, C, D) or ability to obtain within first six (6) months of employment. Must have a pesticide applications certification for the State of Wisconsin or ability to obtain within the first six (6) months of employment. Knowledge and ability to operate motorized equipment, trucks and tools. Ability to perform basic building maintenance operations to include plumbing, electrical and HVAC. Ability to perform manual labor (bend, stoop, handle equipment, lift minimum of 100 pounds); work from a height of at least 50 feet; withstand a variety of temperatures, weather and work conditions; and possess short/long distance vision. Ability to work overnight, weekends and holidays, including emergency calls with a two hour minimum. Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.
