Ngā mōhiohio e pā ana ki tēnei mahi (About this position) This is a great opportunity for excellent hands-on training in General and Community Paediatrics. Fulfils the rural, developmental and community requirements by 12 months work in Paediatrics. This position is permanent, full-time (1.0 FTE) working 80 hours per fortnight. We have ten consultants across Nelson and Blenheim, and 2 or 3 house surgeons, a trainee intern and medical students in our team in Nelson. Rostered duties include one period of 24 hr call during the week in Nelson and 4 weekly in Blenheim, and weekend cover as part of the consultant roster, with backup consultant cover. The working hours are 8.00am to 5.00pm daily Monday to Friday with on-call 1 in 5 weekends (Friday to 8.00am Monday) throughout the year, supported by a Consultant. The Registrar will be on call once during the week covering acute service from 8am to 5pm and then On-call from 5.00pm to 8.00am. The successful candidate will have 3 Paediatric clinics a week with a mix of medical problems, developmental Paediatrics including ADHD and ASD and Gateway assessments (with Consultant back-up). These will involve responsibility for your own patients and the decision making related to this. S/he will have good exposure to general Paediatrics and the chance to participate in MDTs and observe in visiting Specialist clinics. Applicants should be post FRACP examinations, and be working as an advanced trainee in their final year of training. This position is based in the outpatient department in Nelson with the emphasis of the work being ambulatory paediatrics, but also acute work, both general and neonatal, supporting 2 House Officers. Although based in Nelson, every 4 weeks there is an Outpatient clinic and overnight call at Wairau hospital. Teaching duties will include House Officers working for DCH, Trainee Interns from Christchurch, medical students from Wellington and many different allied health professional groups.
