Nurse Educator GSG at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Hutt Valley, Lower Hutt Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Whatu Ora - Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley District Service: General Surgery and Gynaecology
Salary: $114,025 - $121,444 NZNO pro rata for part time We are seeking a senior Registered Nurse to join the Nurse Educator Team in the Hutt Valley. This is a permanent/ part time position at 0.8 FTE in our General Surgery and Gynecology Ward (GSG). Your primary responsibility is to provide education to the nursing staff in GSG. You will be contributing professional growth by providing guidance, coaching, and mentoring alongside experienced professionals.
About GSG The GSG team cares for patients following elective surgery such as bowel resections, thyroidectomies, mastectomies, and hysterectomies. They provide perioperative care for patients with acute conditions such as appendicitis and cholecystitis and are responsible for managing diverse conditions like pancreatitis and diverticulitis that may not necessitate surgery. They coordinate patient scans in the radiology department, procedures in the endoscopy unit, and at times refer patients to Wellington Regional Hospital for further investigations or procedures. Their patient care approach is comprehensive and inclusive, leveraging a broad spectrum of multidisciplinary resources to ensure holistic and equitable care delivery.
The Hutt Valley Nurse Educator team comprises seventeen dedicated Nurse Educators who deliver education across the hospital, supporting our nursing workforce. They are supervised by the Charge Nurse Manager Education and collaborate closely with the Workforce and Practice Development Unit (W&PDU) to foster an environment of continuous education and professional growth, ensuring our workforce delivers high quality and safe services.
The preferred candidate will need to have:
Nursing Council of New Zealand Registration and current APCA minimum three years post graduate nursing experience with expertise in surgical or critical care nursingExperience in coaching and teaching and proven ability to engage people at all levelsA commitment to applying principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and achieving equitable outcomes for MaoriStrong verbal and written communication skillsProficient in Microsoft office softwareA current PDRP, and a post graduate qualification in nursing is desiredRelevant clinical experience in education is highly desirable but not essential for this role. The position would suit a self-motivated, organised person who is passionate about education and development of the nursing workforce.
