Mo te tunga | About the role The Microbiology Unit at Canterbury Health Laboratories, Te WhatuOra, Waitaha currently employs 4 Consultants and 2 Registrars (in training positions)and provides an extensive and state of the art service to the local hospitalsand community. The department has a strong academic link with the University ofOtago.
As a tertiary hospital laboratory, a substantial range of routinelaboratory tests are performed as well as an expanding set of specialisedtests. The Microbiology service provides specialist information and testing ofmicrobial pathogens involved in a patient's infectious disease process andassists with managing outbreaks of communicable diseases. The department hasclose links with several medical specialties, in particular InfectiousDiseases, Sexual Health and Infection Prevention & Control.
Specialist areas in microbiology include bacteriology, mycology,parasitology, virology, serology, and infection control. Molecular methods forma large part of the diagnostic strategy CHL employs. These integrated servicesare provided by experienced and highly qualified staff, with specialist medicalinterpretation of results.
What we are looking for: We are seeking a Consultant Microbiologist to join our dynamicteam on a Fixed Term 3-6 months to cover a sabbatical. We are flexible andcould potentially work around your needs.
As a Consultant Microbiologist, you will play a key role inproviding expert advice and guidance on matters related to microbiology withinour healthcare facility. You will be responsible for diagnosing and treatinginfectious diseases, overseeing laboratory procedures, conducting research, andcollaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the highest standards ofpatient care.
