NIWA is New Zealand's largest and pre-eminent provider of climate, freshwater and marine science.
This graduate internship will provide a recent Maori science graduate (BSc or MSc) with an opportunity to learn and engage in the realities of delivering Maori Environmental Research.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to engage, conduct research, and operate at the interface between science and Te Ao Maori by contributing to and working across a wide range of active research projects led by Te Kuwaha, NIWAs National Centre of Maori Environmental Research.
This internship will provide the Maori graduate with practical experience, relationships/networks and a platform from which to consider a long-term science/research career. They will gain experience in freshwater, marine and estuarine science, fisheries, aquaculture, climate change and hazards, social/humanities research and matauranga Maori, while learning how to communicate effectively with Maori and work collaboratively across disciplines.
The intern will be based in Wellington but will work on projects and tasks across all Te Kuwaha research programmes. They will assist researchers in their daily tasks and be mentored in collaborative and multidisciplinary research methods, literature reviews, developing fieldwork plans, collecting and analysing data and presenting their findings to an audience.
