Maintenance Assistant - must be eligible to work in New ZealandReports to: Chief EngineerKey relationships: Department heads and Team MembersOUR VISIONTo fill the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality – by delivering exceptional experiences –every hotel, every guest, every time.OUR MISSIONTo be the most hospitable company in the world – by creating heartfelt experiences for Guests,meaningful opportunities for Team Members, high value for our Owners and a positive impact in ourcommunities.OUR VALUESHospitality We are passionate about delivering exceptional guest experiencesIntegrity We do the right thing, all the timeLeadership We are leaders in our industry and in our communitiesTeamwork We are team players in everything we doOwnership We are owners of our actions and decisionsNow We operate with a sense of urgency and disciplineJOB PURPOSEThe Maintenance Assistant carries out maintenance and engineering duties to maintain all facilities inthe best possible condition under the general direction and guidance of the Chief Engineer and theHotel Manager and within the limits of established Hotel and local policies and procedures in anoptimum and efficient manner and responsible for looking after our customers – both internal andexternal to meet our Company Vision and Mission.RESPONSIBILITIESPeople and quality• Carry out assigned tasks by management, including physical duties such as; lifting andtransporting furniture and other equipment, climbing ladders, working in enclosed areas or any other duties assigned by the Chief Engineer/ Hotel Manager.• Comply with all systems and procedures as laid down by the Chief Engineer and the hotelmanagement• Maintains the building and plant properly and efficiently by following the guidelines in allMaintenance and Policy manuals.• To be responsible for the investigation and completion of general maintenance problems withinthe hotel in a professional manner• To carry out any planned preventative maintenance as directed by the Chief Engineer• To be fully competent in the use of all hand tools, power tools, electrical equipment and portabletest equipment• To have a working knowledge of the building management software and any other maintenancerelated systems that fall under the responsibilities.• To keep a complete record of all work carried out and provide this to the Chief Engineer at theend of each shift• To have a working knowledge of fire panels, sprinklers, emergency lights and fire pumps• To know and adhere to health and safety, fire and security precautions that operate in thedepartment and in the hotel• To carry out painting and decorating tasks as directed by the Chief Engineer.• Undertake general minor plumbing work such as unblocking drains, urinals and toilets, basicplumbing repairs, tapware, toilets and shower heads up to the authorized level.• Investigate minor electrical defects, continuously check and if needed - replace lights and/or lightbulbs and carry out minor electrical maintenance up to authorised level.• Investigate minor mechanical defects and carry out minor mechanical maintenance up to anauthorised level.• To carry out duties and assist other outlets as directed by the Chief Engineer.• Ensures all electrical equipment is in safe working order in line with current regulations.• Is fully aware of the hotel's and local health and safety and fire regulations, and carries them outaccording to procedures, ensuring that all staff have a comprehensive understanding and adhereto fire-life-safety and hygiene policies.• Ensures a high level of communication is maintained with all other hotel departments, taking aproactive approach to informing departments of compliance requirements and being receptive toother departments' needs. To keep the Chief Engineer fully informed of any issues which arise.• To assist other departments with activities as appropriate and directed by management.• Performs related duties and special projects as assigned.• Conduct minor furniture and carpentry repairs.• Maintain pools and surrounding areas.• Be pro-active in developing your individual skills, ensure planned training is completed.• Ensure you regularly attend communication meetings held within the department.• Ensure communication between Engineering and all other areas of the hotel is professional,efficient and thorough.Workplace Health and SafetyTeam members will be accountable to their supervisor or manager for:• To be responsible for their own safety and the safety of others by the manner in which the dutiesare performed under Health and Safety legislation• Taking reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and others (team members,contractors, guests, members of the public) at the hotel.• To attend all health and safety (H&S) training courses that may required• Keeping their work area safe, clean and tidy.• Accepting and abiding by, the intent and instruction of the H&S policy.• Participating in all H&S consultative meetings, emergency response rehearsals and reviews.• The immediate reporting (to their direct supervisor) of all incidents, hazards which may causeinjury, ill health or damage and to actively participate in programs undertaken to eliminate or controlsuch hazards to the extent to which they are authorised and/or qualified.• Participate and cooperate in the rehabilitation and return to work program if injured.• Wearing and maintaining all personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job or workenvironment.• Cooperate with the hotel regarding any requirement that is enforced in the interests of health,safety and welfare at work.Customer• Trouble shoot and carry out basic repairs to guestroom equipment (A/C units, TVs,etc)• To promptly action any maintenance related guest requests.• Maintenance of guest rooms and other guest areas to the Hilton quality standards• Always have the guest and their comfort in mind in relations to your role and impact as aMaintenance Assistant• To be respectful of our guest's privacy ensuring their every request in this regard is strictly adheredto and their details remain confidential, strictly following any related Hilton Confidentiality Policies.• Be flexible with rostering.• Adhere to departmental operating expenses as laid out by your managerMust hold a valid permit to work in New ZealandWhat are we looking for?A Maintenance Assistant serving Hilton brands is always working on behalf of our Guests and working with other Team Members.
