Activity based work in the outdoors looking after our evironment
The Role
We are looking for someone who loves the outdoors, is physically fit, wants to contribute to looking after our environment and has a good work ethic. You will be ready and willing to get stuck in and learn all aspects of our field operations in a supported environment. The work tasks support flood management and river bank restoration, and include: clearing/de-silting drains, tree clearing, culvert laying and riverbank erosion repairs.
Full training will be provided on the job, along with Health and safety courses. (E.g. 4 Wheel drive training, trailer, chain saw operator, weed spraying, First Aid)
The work is based in Rotoruaand ideally you will live in or close to Rotorua Township.
Key Requirements
A love of the environment
Good work ethic, and physically fit to do the work
Good communication skills – you will be dealing with Contractors, member of the public, Iwi and land owners.
NCEA Level 2 or completion of 4 years secondary schooling
A clean and valid driver’s licence including the use of heavy truck and road machinery
Competent machinery operating skills and extensive tractor driving experience
About Us
You’ll be joining the Rivers and Drainage Operations whanau who are part of the Integrated Catchments group at the Bay of Plenty Regional Council. This team thoroughly enjoy their work in the outdoors and will support you to learn and love it too.
The Bay of Plenty Regional Council is responsible for land, air and water as well as public transport and economic development. A major focus of our work involves looking after the environment. We manage the effects of people’s use of freshwater, land, air and coastal water. However, we also have a broader responsibility with others for the economic, social and cultural well-being of the regional community.
