We want to support this developing team and the clients we have as well as grow further opportunities.About the roleWe are looking for a Laboratory Manager with a strong and successful background in small to large scale Laboratory Management. Reporting to the General Manager, this position is responsible for day to day and long-term strategic management of the Wellington Laboratory. The role will require someone with a strong but supportive leadership style, who is able to identify what motivates their team and use this to provide personal and professional development. This role requires an established ability to work cross-functionally with all teams and encourage your team to do the same. It goes without saying that strong relationship building, communication, interpersonal skills, and have a sense of instilling urgency to provide good customer service but without compromising on quality of that service is key. A strong understanding of commercial delivery on projects to ensure that the team is safe, timeframes are met, and clients are happy is crucial. A solid understanding of sustainable growth and financially viability of the business is important in providing the positive team culture we all enjoy and encourage.Technical, Operational and Commercial experience will be important to this role. You will work alongside your small team with the support of the other branches, Laboratory Managers, Technical Director, and General Manager to deliver current projects through this construction season as well as develop new opportunities.Our focus is on quality testing. We do not do engineering design.Skills and experienceA background as an Engineering technician or Engineering Geologist is important.Preferably have a minimum of 2 year's relevant professional experience in a civil engineering IANZ accredited laboratory.You will be able to demonstrate your highly developed technical proficiency in a Civil and Geotechnical Laboratory environment.You need to be on the ball with the NZ Health and Safety standards, empowering your team to be aware of compliance and the use of company systems as well as commonsense.Be proficient in engineering materials in the laboratory and field in accordance with the Laboratory Management system (based on ISO/IEC 17025).You will need to be physically fit and capable of working outdoors during all seasons.Your ability to provide positive mentoring from your own technical background in engineering testing will be essential.Competency with integrating electronic data collection and point of testing analysis will be advantageous. Adaptability to using changing IT in the field is essential. You need to be able to cope well with new tricks.You will need to have strong communication, interpersonal skills, and time management to undertake field and lab testing while supporting the development of the team. You will have a friendly disposition with competent leadership and decision making to deliver a responsive team with successful client relationships.Business development experience to raise the profile of the company with potential clients. Experience in quoting, contract management, profit and loss, productivity, field testing including earthworks quality assurance is important.Familiarity with regulatory requirements and quality standards.Benefits and perksLeadership support with external/internal training.We offer competitive remuneration package, employee assistance programme, discounted fuel at service milestone, and long service leave at specific milestones.We are a family friendly company encouraging community involvement.
