We are looking for a suitably qualified, energetic and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to work with the School Cook and Kitchen Assistant in our Hohepa School. You will be based at our Poraiti School site – a busy environment where communication will be key. In this role you will be supporting our Tamariki (Childrens) Service by creating nutritious meals in line with our special character (anthroposophy). We are lucky to have a biodynamic farm and utilise our products and produce where we can. This role works over 35 hours per week, usually 07:00am to 02:30pm, however flexibility is needed to support special events such as families weekend and festivals.Key responsibilities: Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards at all times. Ensure the quality and consistency of all dishes prepared; Cook dishes according to established recipes and techniques; Collaborate with kitchen staff, school staff and home staff to ensure co-ordination between these areas, for events/catering requests. Contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment. Our ideal candidate will have: Previous experience in a kitchen environment is desirable; Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and food safety standards; Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; Strong attention to detail and passion for creating nutritious meals Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team; Willingness to learn and take direction from School Cook and other kitchen staff; Able to adapt and be flexible with change; Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices is an advantage.
