HEALTH NEW ZEALAND/TE WHATU ORA – CAPITAL, COAST AND HUTT VALLEY The University of Otago, in association with Health New Zealand/Te Whatu Ora – Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley, seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor of Paediatrics to join their team based on our Wellington Campus. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a clinical academic to establish themselves in one of the leading medical schools in Australasia.
The appointee will provide leadership in teaching and research in the field of Paediatrics while supporting an effective and efficient inpatient and outpatient service for paediatric patients in the Wellington region. There are opportunities for wide collaboration with researchers in the University's well regarded medical departments.
In addition to holding the position of Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Otago, the appointee will concurrently hold a position as Consultant Paediatrician with Health New Zealand/Te Whatu Ora – Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley.
This is a joint University/Hospital position and will be held as a single contract with the University. The two separate roles equal the equivalent of one full-time position.
Academic Component – 0.5 FTE The successful applicant will be based in the the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, within University of Otago, Wellington and appointed to the position of Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor dependent on academic achievement, skills and experience.
The appointee will have academic qualifications and prior experience in teaching and research and will be responsible for teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. There will be significant opportunity for research – many opportunities across the child health research spectrum are available.
Clinical Component - 0.5 FTE The Health New Zealand/Te Whatu Ora – Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley district provides hospital and health services in primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare to a total population base of approximately 445,000 citizens.
The successful applicant will participate in a shared roster and an after-hours on-call roster; clinical duties and patient care will form 50% of weekly duties. Alongside an enthusiastic group of colleagues, the appointee will ideally provide support for the outpatient general paediatric, behavioural, developmental clinics, as well as child protection.
Additional payment is made for clinical duties outside of regular hours, in negotiation with Health New Zealand/Te Whatu Ora – Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley.
The successful candidate must be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
