The Internal Assurance Advisor plays a crucial specialist role contributing to the maintenance of Council's best practice compliance and risk management practices, adding value and support to the internal audit process and gaining exposure to a wide variety of audits and business units.
The role is responsible for the development and execution of Council's annual internal assurance plan as well as providing specialist internal assurance advice to the organisation. You will have an opportunity to engage with a variety of different business units across the organisation and develop key relationships with internal stakeholders.
About the Role: Identify areas of potential risk and provide recommendations for improvement across different business segments.Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement audit plans.Perform risk and control assessments and contribute to the development of risk management strategies.Prepare comprehensive audit reports and communicate findings to management and governance.Monitor and follow up on the implementation of audit recommendations.Provide advice to internal stakeholders at all levels of organisation.Stay informed about changes in relevant regulations and sector best practices.Requirements: Tertiary level qualification, or equivalent level of learning through experience.Minimum of 5 years proven experience in internal audit, risk management, or assurance and control roles, preferably in a local government or public sector environment.Professional certification such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) will be beneficial, but not required.Knowledge of IIA 3 Lines model.Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.Experience in data analytics will be preferred, but not essential.Good understanding of public sector accountability and systems.This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who wants to develop their internal audit/assurance experience.
