Details of the offer

Two full-time Intern Pharmacists, starting January 2020
Based at Christchurch hospital, including rotations to CDHB hospital sites (Burwood, Hillmorton, Princess Margaret and Ashburton hospitals)
Eligible for the PSNZ evolve intern pharmacist programme

Our Purpose:Why we do it
When you work with the Canterbury District Health Board, you're part of something very special. We plan, fund and deliver health services to the almost 600,000 New Zealanders that live in the Canterbury region. Our primary goal is to put people at the heart of everything we do.
The Team:What we do
Canterbury District Health Board prides itself on supporting, developing and training Clinical Pharmacists. Our internship programme ensures our interns are trained in all aspects of hospital pharmacy and are well qualified at the end to work competently as a pharmacist.
This position has plenty of challenging opportunities and innovation is encouraged by peers, senior staff and management. As part of your internship programme you will complete a research project, with guidance, which will be presented either in-house or at the NZHPA conference.
The department provides regular continuing education and numerous other training opportunities which we expect our interns to take part in.
Each intern has one preceptor for the year but many pharmacy staff are involved with the training both in-house and on the wards, so a wide variety of experience is gained. We also organise a rotation to a community pharmacy for OTC experience.
Our interns are encouraged to stay within our hospital pharmacy service for future employment after their internship to build on their clinical knowledge, vacancies permitting. We are aware that hospital intern positions are limited so we also encourage pharmacists qualified through community intern programs to consider hospital pharmacy as a career post-registration.
We offer to pay the internship fees for our interns in return for a bonded period of service (depending on availability of continuation positions).
The Role:Where you fit in
In this role, you will be responsible for the following:
Clinical interventions
Medicines reconciliation
Patient counselling
Dispensing, non-sterile and aseptic production
Completing the PSNZ EVOLVE programme

Your skills will include the following:

Excellent computer skills
The ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team
A flexible and motivated approach to your work

Our Culture:What matters to us
Ko Te Whatu Manawa Tangata
Putting people at the heart of all we do
Health is ultimately all about people. What's important around here is the way we care for and respect others, the responsibility taken for delivering outcomes, and going about our work with integrity.
