Seek assurance that participants are operating safely and demonstrating effective compliance with relevant regulatory requirements. High level of technical skill and experience in an aviation operational setting is required. Permanent role based in Wellington, Auckland or Christchurch.
We're looking for great people to join the Authority in our vision of keeping New Zealand's skies safe and secure.

About the role As an Inspector in our Monitoring and Inspection Unit, you will be responsible for undertaking monitoring and inspection activities at either a system, sector or participant level. This will seek assurance that aviation participants are operating safely, effectively identifying and managing their safety risks, and are carrying out their responsibilities. Our Inspectors also provide specialist support to other operational units to support broader Authority objectives.

This is a permanent role based in Wellington, Auckland or Christchurch and the salary band for this position is $112,171 to $156,711 with a mid-range being $131,259. Starting salaries will be based on demonstrable knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role and relativities across the organisation.

What we're looking for To be successful in this role you will possess a high level of technical skill and experience in an aviation operational setting and be able to apply this to your regulatory work at the Authority. For this position, the ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in the management of safety in an airline environment, preferably combined with a previous management role and experience working within Part 145 organisations and management of airworthiness.

Your supportive interpersonal skills mean that you will be able to engage effectively with aviation participants to inform and influence the management of safety. You will be respected by others for your integrity, professionalism and aviation experience and be passionate about improving aviation safety performance. Your systems thinking approach combined

with your ability to think critically will be of benefit in your day-to-day work. This role has a high travel component, both domestically and internationally – so the demonstrable ability to self-manage and plan so that allocated work is completed timeously and to the required standard is vital.

You will bring a sound understanding of the New Zealand civil aviation, and health and safety, legislative and regulatory frameworks, an awareness of equivalent foreign requirements and experience in applying formal risk management systems.

You will hold or has held a relevant ICAO recognised aviation document e.g. pilot licence (CPL or ATPL) or aircraft maintenance engineer licence (AMEL) or equivalent experience and qualifications.

Why join us? If you are passionate about increasing a broader understanding of aviation safety and security across a wider audience and channels, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity. As a flexible friendly employer, we are happy to discuss solutions that may work for you and us. We value and care about enabling our people to work in a way that means they can work at their best.
