The iconic Backbencher Gastropub is looking for an experienced, organised and hands on Head Chef. We are a hospitality company that includes an iconic pub next to parliament, function rooms as well as 2 cafes (1 offsite) and a coffee roastery and retail brand. We provide high quality food across a range of a la carte and function styles as well as cabinet food ranges. You will report to the General Manager and together ensure the continued success and growth of one of Wellington's true institutions. You will be responsible for all product leaving our kitchen as well as all kitchen operations. The role is a full time permanent role (minimum 40 hours per week) with a wage range of $30-$40 per hour You will be responsible for: - New menu design and implementation (in conjunction with a high-profile consultant chef) - Constructing menus with new or existing culinary creations ensuring the variety and quality of the servings - Interaction between BOH and FOH staff (alongside FOH Managers) - Implement and manage stock control, ordering, and checking of deliveries - Food production and wastage - Staffing and wage costs - Health and safety - Food Hygiene, food control plan and recording - Managing supplier relationships - Equipment maintenance and cleanliness of all food related areas - Ability to roast coffee - Ability to clean and maintain coffee roaster - Up-to-date with culinary trends and optimized kitchen processes Our ideal Head Chef: · A career professional with experience in staff management, minimum of 3-5 years experience in a similar role. · A leader that can train and motivate a kitchen team · Knowledge of cuts of meat, cooking points · Knowledge of seafood handling, Sushi · Knowledge of French, Rest of Europe and South American cuisine · Argentine style barbecue · Proficiency in menu costing and ability to control and minimize wastage · Significant experience in large-scale events and functions · Strong understanding of rostering and costing · Foster a climate of cooperation and respect between co-workers · Genuine commitment to a successful career in hospitality · A friendly, enthusiastic, and positive can-do attitude · Maintaining and exceeding overall minimum standards · Thrives under pressure · A team player · Creative flair and excellent presentation skills In return the Backbencher offers: - Competitive Wage - KPI-based performance bonus - Entertainment food and beverage tab - Phone and laptop - A great working environment - Max working week of 60hrs Start date flexible but this position is vacant and ready to be filled now.
