The Role: As a vital member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), you'll drive ORC's efforts in environmental and community resilience. Your responsibilities include: Scientific Research Leadership: Lead the provision of scientific research and investigation to understand the region's environment, its health, and factors impacting its resilience. Environmental Monitoring: Oversee the monitoring of Otago's environment, assessing trends, changes, and emerging issues to inform decision-making. Policy and Planning Guidance: Ensure robust scientific insights inform ORC's regional policy and planning processes, fostering sustainable development. Engineering Oversight: Oversee the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of regional flood control, land drainage, and river management systems. Natural Hazards: Provide strategic oversight to the natural hazards and risk monitoring programme including the delivery of a 24/7 flood response function. Evidence-Based Resilience: Ensure all resilience projects are backed by evidence and strategically aligned with ORC's objectives. Partnership Development: Collaborate with internal and external partners to leverage funding opportunities for mutually beneficial projects. Resource Management: Ensure engineering workstreams are well-resourced and structured to respond effectively to environmental changes. Project Delivery: Oversee the timely and budget-conscious delivery of environmental projects, reporting regularly on progress and risk mitigation strategies. Who We're Looking For: We seek a dynamic leader with: A minimum of 10 years of strategic leadership experience, preferably within the Local Government sector. Extensive experience in developing and monitoring strategies and performance measures in collaboration with ELT colleagues. Senior-level experience in infrastructure project management and/or relevant operational functions. A working understanding of the Resource Management Act (1991) and experience navigating sensitive political environments. Proven ability to build positive relationships with governance boards, committees, mana whenua, and other stakeholders. A strong track record in stakeholder engagement and partnership development.
