General Practitioner - Queen St Practice, Wairoa

We have a unique opportunity for a suitably qualified General Practitioners to join our collegial, friendly team at Queen St Practice in Wairoa.
This is a rural family practice, Cornerstone Accredited since 2015. The practice has experienced Practice Nurses and Administration support staff. They operate as a close-knit team, are welcoming, friendly and supportive. There is a high level of collegiality across the two General Practices in Wairoa, providing regular local peer group meetings and opportunities to reviews cases.
The work is varied and challenging. Recent experience in General Practice, an interest in an indigenous population with high health needs, familiarity with acute medicine, accident and emergency is a requirement, and an ability to work in a small rural hospital providing after hours care is crucial.
Wairoa is part of the Hawke's Bay District Health Board. Hawke's Bay Hospital consultants and specialists 24/7 provide expert and responsive support.
The successful applicants will have Medical Council of New Zealand certification and have an ongoing commitment to providing a high quality service to the community. Ideally, they will be working towards or be vocationally registered in GP or Rural Hospital Medicine. However we can provide onsite supervision by vocationally registered GPs and will support for GP's special interests if possible.
Queen St Practice is located in Wairoa, a small and well-resourced rural town in the Hawkes Bay region, situated 1.5 hours North of Napier and 1 hour south of Gisborne. The population of the town and surrounding rural district is 8500. Approximately 65 percent of the population are Maori and this is reflected in the history of this beautiful area. It has a lively town centre with most essential shops and services.
Northern Hawkes Bay has a special and diverse beauty. It has its own beach and is also the access way to the popular beaches of Mahia Peninsula, as well as the wilderness area of Te Urewera National Park. Within the district you can enjoy fishing (trout and deep sea), good surfing, and other water sports. Warm summers and mild winters mean most of these activities can be enjoyed year-round.
