Horizon Networks, based in Whakatane is recruiting for a self-motivated individual to fill the Future Network and Planning Manager position on a full-time and permanent basis in our Auckland branch.
Reporting to the General Manager Network, the Future Network and Planning Manager will be responsible to: Unlock whole-of-system value despite varying uncertainties driven by climate change through effective and well-coordinated planning, adoption of edge technologies and tools, and robust data-driven decision-making Prepare the business for potential future changes to the Network driven by emerging technologies (such as generation, storage, consumer, information, and operational technologies), distributed energy resources (DERs), electrification of energy systems, changing customer behaviours, climate change, and extreme weather events. Explore future Distribution System Operation roles and functions, evaluate and recommend the roles and functions that Horizon should assume. Develop strategies using the 'least regret' principle that allows Horizon to pivot with minimal sunk cost and effort should the conditions change Manage the development of the network system by ensuring appropriate and timely investigation, planning, project initiation, and appropriate network models are developed and maintained Manage the processes and engineering standards for new or alternation of connections and maintain the network stability, compliance, reliability and security under different operating conditions Manage the engineering regulation functions, including but not limited to Asset Management Plan, loss factors, information disclosures, cost of supply, information requests from external parties such as Transpower, EEA, ENA, EECA, Councils, Government agents and third parties Manage and deliver the annual planning process. Ensure optimised investment plans are developed through robust risk and cost/benefit analysis Ensure the System Operator requirements are met at all times Liaise with external stakeholders including Transpower, Regional Council, District Council, and connected parties for the purpose of planning and coordination Support the business with retaining various certifications including but not limited to ISO 55001, ISO 45001, NZS 7901, and ISO 9001 To be successful a candidate will require the following qualifications and experience: Bachelor or post-graduate qualification in electrical engineering discipline Registered Professional Engineer Preferred Over ten years experience in electricity transmission or distribution sectors Experience in distribution or transmission planning Experience in connection studies and integration of distributed energy resources Proficient in power system analysis and network modelling using DigSILENT Power Factory or similar Current Unrestricted NZ Drivers Licence Solid background in power systems analysis, faults analysis, and protection Demonstrated experience in programming and big data analysis Knowledge of industry challenges, trends, and new technologies The Horizon Energy Group takes pride on its commitment to the health and safety of all its stakeholders and bases all its activities on safety leadership, risk management and worker participation as premise.
