The Financial Controller reports into our Chief Financial Officer and is based in our Wellington office.
Our finance team is made up of 10 finance professionals across a range of levels, so this is a great opportunity for you to coach and mentor our more junior staff.
You will be responsible for implementing positive change and improvements, as well as naturally providing development, as you will operate as the 2IC to our CFO, where required.
We are a small agency however, due to the complex accounting environment, there will be lots of variety and opportunity for you to showcase your technical nous.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing strategic and technical financial advice, for example for funding proposals and key policy projects in risky, complex, ambiguous or sensitive policy areasSupport the CFO with the development, implementation and maintenance of the Ministry's accounting policies and processes in line with best practice and Treasury guidelinesDeveloping, testing, and implementing new ideas and enhancing financial management frameworks that support the provision of forward focused expert financial adviceOversee the provision of the Ministry's accounts payable, receivable and expense management functionSupporting the team to ensure delivery of high quality financial services, information and advice to maximise the contribution that the team makes to Ministry outcomes and government goalsRecently the Ministry implemented a new structure and operating model to position it to support the Government to deliver its priorities.
Te wahi ki a koe | What you'll bring Full member of CAANZ (or equivalent) with significant experience post qualificationStrong technical accounting skills and knowledge of NZ GAAP (and specifically, PBE IPSAS) preferably within central governmentFinancial accounting experience in a medium to large public sector organisationKnowledge of appropriations and relevant public sector policies, rules and processes beneficialDemonstrated experience in leading, coaching and mentoring staffThe budgeted salary range for this role is $127,142 - $154,893 + KiwiSaver. The salary offered will be based on skills and experience.
