Details of the offer

Blend of events coordination, marketing and general office support Busy and varied role – opportunity to stamp your mark and make it your own Based in Wellington CBD, just off Lambton Quay About The New Zealand Initiative: The New Zealand Initiative is an evidence-based think tank and research institute, which is supported by a membership organisation that counts some of the country's leading visionaries, business leaders and political thinkers among its ranks. The Initiative's researchers conduct independent research on a wide range of policy issues. From education to economic policy, poverty to housing, and local government to immigration, they are injecting new ideas into New Zealand's political debates. They are strictly non-partisan in their work and welcome an open exchange of views and ideas. About the role: The Initiative holds events throughout the year to promote debate, disseminate ideas, and connect with their supporters. Events include public forums, debates, conferences, webinars, member lunches and retreats. They also organise outreach activities with secondary schools, universities, and young professionals. You'll work closely with the Operations Director and support her with all the logistical requirements of event management, including managing the registration process, booking venues and catering, communicating with members and speakers, booking travel and accommodation, maintaining the events calendar, and ensuring everything is in place on the day for each event to run smoothly. You'll share an office with the Marketing and Communications Manager and will support him as needed with tasks such as compiling and sending the weekly electronic newsletter, proofreading, producing marketing and publications materials, liaising with design and printing agencies, and assisting to maintain the website. Additionally, you'll be responsible for supporting the Operations Director with the general running of the office. This includes answering phones, maintaining databases, sorting mail and emptying the dishwasher. It's a small office of 12 and everyone pitches in, so you must be prepared to turn your hand to anything – and the more initiative you put in the more you will get in return! Benefits: You'll enjoy plenty of breadth and variety as well as the opportunity to work with a highly skilled, supportive and collaborative team within a high-trust and agile environment where your ideas are encouraged and respected. This is a full-time permanent position, based on Brandon Street in the Wellington CBD. Benefits include five weeks annual leave per annum, newspaper subscriptions, and trauma, income protection and health insurance. About you: Proven events coordination experience, or similar A strong customer service ethos and confidence to embrace high standards Ability to act as a professional and respected host at events Passionate about creating a memorable customer experience Highly developed written and verbal communication skills Outstanding relationship building skills with the ability to relate to people at all levels The ability to self-manage and use initiative Organised, priority and deadline driven with a keen eye for detail Willingness to pitch in and work as part of a collaborative team Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programmes and databases. Experience with InDesign would be advantageous A sense of humour and positive, collegial attitude An interest in and knowledge of domestic and international current affairs will be valued To find out more about the New Zealand Initiative and the events they run, please visit their website #J-18808-Ljbffr
