EOI - Ambulance and Events Volunteers - Mid North Time to make a difference?Volunteering as an Ambulance and Events officer is a big commitment that provides huge rewards. By working on community events and on an ambulance your role is varied, but the focus is always on providing quality care to patients.Our  Ambulance volunteers  provide care and support to our patients through their journey which may start at a 111 call and end either being referred to another health care provider, treated on scene, or transported to a medical facility. As an  Events volunteer  you could be covering anything from local and international sports events, to school fairs or a rock concert.You will have a desire to help people in a compassionate and professional way, embracing the diversity our communities offer, be committed to continuous learning and training, and display St John's core  values . Without question, you will be trustworthy and reliable, able to display excellent communication skills (written and oral), have great time management and be computer literate.What do you need to be a volunteer?A full and clean NZ driver's licence for at least 12 months or have completed an approved NZTA advanced driving course (if full licence held for less than 12 months)18 years of age or overNew Zealand citizenship or permanent resident statusClean Police recordPass the St John assessment requirements (physical, interview, literacy/numeracy test)What benefits do you get as a St John volunteer?NZQA recognised training from the leading provider of pre-hospital emergency care in the countryBecome a First Responder and able to apply to progress toward gaining the National Diploma in AmbulanceOpportunity to work in a strong team environment alongside other skilled professionals within your communityGain leadership and communication skills through dealing with a broad range of people in diverse situationsMembership of one of New Zealand's most trusted brands. Benefits such as discounts for St John services and products, and at national and local retailers.Your commitmentOnce accepted, your online and classroom training will take around 6-9 months to complete.Availability for regular duty and training (approximately two 12-hour shifts and one training session per month)A minimum number of hours are needed to become a first responder. In Auckland this will mostly be through attending events, when you are more experienced you have the opportunity to attend ambulance shifts.Support you can expect after joining our teamWe will give you all the support and education needed to make you safe and effective in the field. This includes:A two-day  Operations Induction  course.A two-day  Operations Risk Management  course which is designed to help you stay safe in the field.A two-day  Ambulance Driving  course (where driving is part of your role) which is supported by online learning and the completion of a driving logbook.A four-day  First Responder  course which is designed to enable you to assess patients and manage immediately life-threatening emergencies in the community. This is supported by online learning and the completion of a First Responder Student workbook.At the completion of the Operations Risk Management and First Responder courses you will be issued with a Level 3  New Zealand Certificate in Emergency Care (First Responder)  and will hold the clinical practice level of  First Responder  (the foundation clinical level for ambulance in New Zealand).Please note: all appointments are subject to satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks including, but not limited to physical assessment and health check. This does apply to current members as well. For clinical operations roles where you are required to drive, you will be required to meet Hato Hone St John medical standards.
