It is a stand-alone Crown Agent responsible for national-level consenting and regulatory functions under a number of statutes. To find out more about the EPA, please visit https://www.epa.govt.nz/about-us/The key functions of the EPA are to:process matters for proposals of national significance under the Resource Management Act 1991directly undertake certain functions under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, and oversee those functions delegated to WorkSafe NZundertake administration of the Emissions Trading Scheme and New Zealand Emissions Trading Register under the Climate Change Response Act 2002undertake consenting, information management, monitoring and enforcement functions under the Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf (Environmental Effects) Act 2012.Functions of the EPA BoardThe EPA Board is the governing body of the EPA, being directly accountable to the Minister for the Environment as well as to Parliament for the performance of the EPA. The Board members work collectively to oversee the activities of the executive leadership team and staff, who carry out the day-to-day operations.
