Emergency Medicine House Officers - Commencing 2025! at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Lakes, Bay of Plenty Commencing January 2025 In line with the National Recruitment Cycle, we are keen to hear from House Officers and Senior House Officers looking for a new opportunity commencing January 2025 through to January 2026 in the Emergency Department at Rotorua Hospital.
Rotorua Hospital is a District General Hospital in one of the most spectacular regions of New Zealand – native bush, beautiful lakes and rivers, unique geothermal landscapes and some of the best mountain biking and walking/running trails in NZ. About Us Join our dynamic team at Lakes Emergency Department, serving a population of 116,000 people. Located within Rotorua Hospital, we provide secondary level specialties, with tertiary care available at Waikato Hospital. Our friendly team of doctors and nurses operates in a medium-sized ED, with approximately 37,500 attendances per annum. Our patient mix encompasses a diverse range of cases, including trauma, medical, surgical, paediatric, and minor presentations. Despite facing challenges such as deprivation and social issues, our work is deeply rewarding. With a commitment to improving equity and aligning with ACEM's Manaaki Mana strategy, we strive to meet the evolving needs of our community while developing as a regional training centre.
Accreditation and Training Lakes Emergency Department is accredited for 24 months of ED training by the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM), including the Paediatric Logbook/Paediatric Emergency Requirement component. Additionally, we offer an accredited six-month Anaesthetic rotation for ED trainees, providing valuable learning opportunities within our department. Credentialing in both Procedural Sedation and ED Ultrasound is available.

· Opportunities for gaining procedural experience, including chest drains, fracture reductions, and intubations.
· Mentorship from experienced FACEMs, with half of our team achieving Fellowship within the last five years.
· Engage in writing questions for ACEM Primary and Fellowship exams.
· 3 x referee reports on the MCNZ RP6 form if from over seas and the RMO reference if based in New Zealand (one of whom must be your most recent supervisor). Reports must be received by the above-stated closing date.
Health New Zealand Lakes will not contact referees – it is the applicants' responsibility to provide references with their application. References should be attached to your application.
You must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand and be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council's website at Medical Council New Zealand
Candidates who are not currently registered with the New Zealand Medical Council should be aware that it is a requirement of the NZ Medical Council that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion.
