Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Director for the Confucius Institute on a fixed-term, part-time contract for approximately 20 months. The Confucius Institute is a collaborative venture working in partnership with Xiamen University, located in Wellington's sister city Xiamen, China. The Institute is responsible for developing programmes to support teaching of the Chinese language and promotion of Chinese culture in schools, the university, and the community. The Director will lead and manage the Confucius Institute team. You will ensure that the aims of the Confucius Institute are achieved through relevant programmes and events that focus on Chinese language education, particularly the Mandarin Language Assistant programme in schools. The Director will be responsible for building and managing strong collaborative partnerships and relationships across a range of schools, organisations and individuals engaged in a diverse range of cultural activities. An educational, arts, cultural or international engagement-based background will be key to success in this role. You will have the ability to manage a small but complex institution, working within a larger organisation is essential, as are strong self-management and event management skills and the ability to develop, promote and deliver programmes. This is a part-time role with some travel involved, so being flexible and adaptable are important.
