Fishing & Aquaculture (Farming, Animals & Conservation) Full time Start rate of $28.15+ dependent on experience We are looking for people who share a love and respect for the sea, are passionate about looking after the environment, and wanting a lifelong career in the Aquaculture Industry.An opportunity has arisen for a Deckhand at our Mussel Farming Operations on Stewart Island - Big Glory Bay.
This position involves working on our harvesting/seeding/floating vessels while engaging in all aspects of deck work, aquafarm maintenance and harvesting mussels for processing.This is a Full Time Permanent position based on Stewart Island in Big Glory Bay.
They involve 5 on 2 off shifts.
You will be key in supporting the Skipper and other vessel workers to ensure work is completed in a safe and timely manner.About the role:The main purpose of this role is to carry out duties and operations ensuring the supply of mussels to the Havelock Processing Plant for sale and distribution.What you need to be successful in the role:We are looking for people who can fit in seamlessly with our team of hard workers who get on well with each other.We work outside in all weather conditions, so you need to be comfortable in the elements and at ease on the water.Aquaculture experience or an interest in this field that will always be an advantage.
However, most of our team have a love of nature and the ocean which draws them to these roles.You will be physically fit, good at building relationships, and display the company values of Care, Passion and Integrity.Health and Safety is a top priority for anyone who works for Sanford, you need to be able to demonstrate a clear commitment to this.Experience working on vesselsComfortable with our 5 on/2 off shift patternsExperience in the Aquaculture industry - preferred but not essentialRole Accountabilities:Along with the Skipper and other crew, make sure pre-checks and safety checks are carried out properly prior to any tripEnsure full attention is given and contribution is made at each toolbox meetingMake sure the process for harvesting is followed correctlyEnsure fully trained on how to operate the harvesting equipmentResponsible for ensuring the lines are stripped properly, scraped, repaired and tightenedMaking certain that as soon as harvesting is complete, lines are prepared for seedingEnsure floatation is in good order on the farmsEnsure the seeding equipment is operated correctly to produce optimum result on the vessel in a safe mannerEnsure the seeding is done correctly within required specificationsMaintenance of lines and equipmentHarvesting, re-seeding and seeding of spatWhat we can offer you:Discounts on available musselsStarting rate of $28.15+ dependent on experience Focusing on a culture of continuous improvement and best practice.A beautiful and unique place to workProviding you a safe and enjoyable workplace is paramount to Sanford.A role with plenty of variety, a chance to learn new skills and a career pathway.Together at Sanford we are proud of our extensive seafood history and our position as New Zealand's largest integrated fishing and aquaculture business.
