Customer Regulatory Specialist - Land and Waterways at Land Information New Zealand, Christchurch Customer-centric solutions-based role,Crown Property Function,Flexible working, join the office based in ChristchurchWe have a newly created Customer Regulatory Specialist role in our Crown Property Group following a change implementation designed to bring us closer to our customers and have us take on more responsibility for property and land management.It is an exciting time to join us to support Crown Property to responsibly manage and enhance the use of Crown Land for existing and future generations.
All our specialists in Crown Property work collaboratively to ensure that portfolios meet legislative and maintenance requirements. We also work extensively with Iwi on treaty settlement properties.
This position is based in our Christchurch office, and we can offer mutually acceptable flexible working arrangements.

You will be part of the team responsible for processing/triaging applications for public use of Crown Land for the Land and Waterways portfolio.
The team is tasked with managing a range of applications, including leases, licenses, easements, and other requests related to our land and waterways portfolio. We also collaborate closely with internal Crown teams and external stakeholders, playing a key role in supporting Treaty acquisitions.
This team plays a vital role in providing information to our customers and managing day-to-day reactive maintenance requests for our land and waterway assets.
We are looking for someone who can efficiently manage the operational aspects of our daily processes, while also supporting senior staff in running team functions. The ideal candidate will have previous experience excelling in a high-volume customer-facing role, with a strong background in statutory decision-making. They should possess problem-solving skills and demonstrate creativity in finding cost-effective solutions. Understanding system workflows and the importance of business processes is essential. The candidate should be solution-focused and capable of advising customers to meet their requirements within legislative constraints.
You will have:
Excellent communication, and able to apply a flexible approach to your work,A great attitude to learn and grow skillset,Attention to detail and ability to learn processes & legislation applicable to this role, such as;The Resource Management Act 1991, Biosecurity Act 1993, Forests Act 1949 and relevant national policy statements.The Land Act, Railways Act, Public works ActA customer centric outlook and a drive to become a 'go-to' for information and advice.Where it's relevant to the role, you may also have experience in (or gain experience in):
Commercial or residential property management,Tenancy agreements and planned maintenance scheduling,Understanding government legislation including national policy statements and local authority legislation,Managing land and waterways including land use for recreational activities and contaminated land,Laws and regulations surrounding land obligations including Resource Management Act 1991, Biosecurity Act 1993, Forests Act 1949 and relevant national policy statements.Working collaboratively with Iwi Partners,Understanding laws and regulations surrounding land obligations and land acquisition.The above is not essential knowledge, but it gives you an idea of the breadth of experience you would acquire in these teams.
The annual salary range for this role is: $70,000 – $87,000 dependant on experience.
