Love that the consultants are willing to help you at the drop of a hat and can see they truly enjoy their jobs." – Former ArtsLab Client (2024) Job SummaryWe are looking for an empathetic and energetic Creative Employment Consultant to work with our team to deliver our unique professional development and career pathway programme, ArtsLab. This is a challenging but highly rewarding role ideally suited to a careers professional or someone with a background in tertiary education who is keen to branch out. We are primarily looking for someone passionate about helping people into sustainable and meaningful employment.
ArtsLab provides professional development and career guidance for creatives who are registered with Work and Income and on the Job-Seekers benefit. Previously known as PACE (Pathways to Arts and Cultural Employment), we are Aotearoa New Zealand's longest running creative employment service.
We aim to help our clients find employment by building their resilience and confidence as well as imparting lifelong personal and professional skills. To do this we offer a robust and engaging programme that includes workshops, mentoring (with external industry experts) and career coaching in a safe and enjoyable environment.

MoreProfessional Skills Preferred A minimum qualification in adult teaching such as New Zealand Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching (Level 5), CELTA orequivalent experience evidencing use of a communicative, client-centred learning approachA minimum qualification in career guidance such as NMIT Graduate Certificate in Career Development – you may be part way through your studiesStrong English literacy and communication skillsAble to edit and craft CVs and cover letters to an excellent standardExperience with adult workshop facilitation both online and in personExperience working with young adults in a support capacityExperience supporting clients or students from a range of cultural backgroundsExperience supporting neurodiverse clients or studentsAbility to utilise and communicate a range of job seeking strategiesResearch skills to find suitable training courses, job insights, and stay up to date with creative industry trendsStrong job interview knowledge including but not limited to STAR methodExcellent organisation, time management and administration skillsStrong computer skills: Microsoft Office – Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel (basic), Google suite, and internet researchTech savvy and able to quickly adapt to new systemsKnowledge and experience using LinkedIn for networking and job searchingFamiliar with LMS (learning management systems) and CMS (client management systems)Able to deliver to KPIs (employment targets) set by MSD (Ministry of Social Development)Personal Skills Required Warm, engaging and interested in the Arts and Creative SectorExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to modify communication style for different situations and clientsOpen-mindedness and genuine care and understanding of clients' needs and situationsAble to work collaboratively and independentlyAgile and resilientAbility to display sound judgment and show initiativeAble to help others stay accountable by setting and sticking to goalsAdditional Beneficial Skills Familiarity with New Zealand's creative industriesPrevious experience working with MSD clientsA background or interest in social work or psychology may be beneficialTraining or knowledge in HR and recruitmentCounselling experience or trainingAble to develop engaging content for both in person and online workshopsTo be successful in this role, you will have a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and biculturalism and be aligned with the DEPOT's purpose and ambitions.

This permanent role offers flexibility around WFH days and working hours depending on the applicant and the team's needs.
