Coordinator Care & Protection, Rangiora - Oranga Tamariki
Oranga Tamariki is the Ministry that supports our most at risk children and young people in New Zealand. We put tamariki and rangatahi at the heart of everything we do and focus on improving the wellbeing and positive long-term outcomes.
New Zealand is internationally recognised as a world leader in Family Group Conferences and coordinators are responsible for managing this complex and challenging process. The care and protection family group conference provides a forum for family/whanau and extended members to come together with professionals, to develop solutions for the safety and care for their tamariki and rangatahi, but only after comprehensive consultation and preparation.
This can only happen if we have the right person is in this Coordinator role - and that could be where you come in.
What you will do?
You'll work as an integrated part of our community to manage care and protection family group conferences, children-in-care review meetings, hui-a-whanau and other family meetings. You'll make sure we take a joined up approach to support tamariki, rangatahi and their families/whanau and that all decisions are in the best interest of the child's or young person's safety and protection.
This role engages with tamariki and rangatahi and their whanau, and works closely with community partners and care and protection social workers. The focus is on supporting family/whanau to address care and protection concerns so that children and young people's needs are met and they can thrive.
To be successful in this rewarding position, you will need:
Strong facilitation, mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Sound knowledge of youth law and/or practice
A basic understanding of Te Reo Maori, a working knowledge of Maori worldviews, process and tikanga
Interest in improving the community
To be highly organised, methodical and solutions focused
Good at communicating information in a clear, easy to understand way to a diverse audience
Some understanding of the principles of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 and their application to the FGC process
Computer literate with the ability to write court reports and other notes
Hold a full clean driver licence
