We're seeking a Consultant Anaesthetist to be based in Rotorua, in the beautiful Lakes region of the Central North Island. Permanent position Preferably FANZCA +/ FCICM or equivalent specialist qualifications, e.g. FRCA +/ FICM and CCT Join a team of 16 consultants Participate in the after-hours roster Teaching hospital, popular with junior doctors Explore stunning landscapes – lakes, mountains, national parks, native forest, geothermal wonders Central North Island provides great access to the rest of the North Island Our Client is a medium sized District Health Board delivering specialist services to a population of 110,000 people across two hospital sites in Rotorua and Taupo (1 hour drive from Rotorua), both of which have recently had significant upgrades and the addition of new facilities. There are 180 beds at Rotorua Hospital, including the Special Care Baby Unit, Maternity and Mental Health. Taupo hospital is a level 2 hospital providing some medical and rehabilitation services with ambulatory clinics and day stay surgery. The Service covers a range of regional hospital specialties, running one acute and 4 elective theatres a day. In addition, they cover acute pain, birthing unit, MRI, trauma calls, pre-assessment clinic etc. This full-time role has a commitment of 6 clinical sessions per week and 3 non-clinical sessions. In addition, the team covers an after-hours roster that looks after normal Anaesthetic work and level 2 ICU. For this role, you will have recent broad specialist experience in Anaesthetics and a sound understanding of contemporary models of care, as well as experience of working in a culturally diverse setting. If you possess experience in Intensive Care Medicine this is highly desirable, but while formal qualifications in ICM would be advantageous they are not a requirement. The Service have many other areas of non-clinical interest that they also would be interested in discussing. In addition, you will also have proven leadership skills and experience working effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment; an interest in medical education and teaching, including providing supervision and education to medical students, registrars and other clinical staff; and of course, a commitment in contributing to ongoing quality improvement programmes. What's on offer? Total package ranges NZ$180,000 - $300,000 per annum, depending on experience This includes:Base salary from NZ$164,369 to$244,560 pa, depending on level of experience;On callcalculated on top of your base; Continuing Medical Education Allowance NZ$16,000 + 10 days CME leave pa Plus relocation assistance Location If you're not familiar with this part of New Zealand, Rotorua and the Lakes region is visually stunning and an area of unique natural beauty and geothermal activity, offering a great outdoors lifestyle, perfect for taking advantage of the region's hot summers and mild winters. Although it's a small city (population 65,000), it's vibrant and has a huge tourist and adventure sports industry that drives the local economy all year round. If you enjoy the adrenalin buzz, hanging off rocks, jumping off bridges, rafting down fierce water, doing triathlons and ultramarathons, climbing mountains, ziplining through trees, riding mountain bikes through native forest, you will really love it here… But there's also lots to do if you enjoy a more leisurely pace of life with funky little cafés and bars, restaurants, the Lakes. You can simply enjoy living in a lovely location in a lovely climate. It's an area steeped in history and legend, a place where Tikanga Maori/Maori culture is celebrated, making this a truly unique place to live. There is a domestic airport with daily flights to Auckland's international airport, making connections to/from Rotorua very easy and accessible (45 minutes). And being so centrally located, it's a great jumping off point to other parts of the North Island and New Zealand. Find out more about the Rotorua Lifestyle here Medical Registration Ideally, you will hold Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) and full Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ). Alternatively, if not NZ-trained, you must hold equivalent specialist qualifications in Anaesthetics that will enable Provisional Vocational (long term) registration or Locum Tenens (short term up to 12 months) registration with MCNZ. This means having completed your specialist training in one ofthe following countries,resulting in the qualifications listed below: Australia (Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, FANZCA, or Fellowship of the Faculty of Anaesthetists, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons) Canada (Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or Certificate in Anaesthetics of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada) Ireland (Fellowship of the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland or Fellowship of the Faculty of Anaesthetists, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland - via CCST/CCT only) South Africa (Fellowship of the College of Anaesthetists (South Africa); Master of Medicine (Anaes), University of Cape Town; Master of Medicine (Anaes), University of Pretoria; Master of Medicine (Anaes), University of Stellenbosch) the UK (Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists - via CCST/ CCT only) the USA (Certificate of the American Board of Anesthesiology; Certificate of the American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology) Locum Tenens and Provisional Vocational registration are the two pathways to medical registration in NZ for Specialist Anaesthetists and we can assist with your medical registration and visa, if successfully appointed.
