Community Mental Health Nurses - PSAID Outpatients

Closes02 Feb 2021
Posted19 Jan 2021
Two permanent Community RN positions: One at full-time (1 FTE), and one at part-time (0.5 FTE)
Community mental health experience desired, based in PSAID's outpatient team
Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current APC and must have a mental health scope of practice

Our Purpose: Why we do it
When you work with the Canterbury District Health Board, you're part of something very special. We plan, fund and deliver health services to the almost 600,000 New Zealanders that live in the Canterbury region. Our primary goal is to put people at the heart of everything we do.
The Team: What we do
Based at Hillmorton Hospital, the Psychiatric Services for Adults with an Intellectual Disability (PSAID) Community team provides comprehensive mental health assessment and treatment, including case management, for consumers with an intellectual disability and who also have a mental illness. The service is geared towards supporting and enabling consumers to effectively manage their illness in the community and lead a good life, often following inpatient care.
The Role: Where you fit in
This role involves managing and prioritising a caseload, where you oversee all aspects of care for consumers. This includes assessments, home visits, follow up appointments, and organising reviews within your multidisciplinary team. A key part of the role will also see you support residential providers in keeping consumers well in their supported living arrangements. To this end, you will be assisting in providing advice and directives for NGO workers involved in the treatment plans of your consumers. You will also be prepared to respond to and know how to approach crises whenever they may occur.
This role requires the following:
An experienced Registered Nurse with a recent mental health background, with a current NZ practicing certificate
Past experience working in Intellectual Disability Services is desirable, although if you don't have this, we are still interested to hear from anyone who has an interest to work and gain experience in ID
A confident practitioner with demonstrated patient assessment skills
A Registered Nurse who is enthusiastic, motivated, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage a wide variety of people
Previous experience in working with consumers who have an intellectual disability would be an advantage

There are two Community Mental Health Nurse positions available:
0.5 FTE, part time permanent position

Please indicate which position you are interested in applying for in your cover letter.
Our Culture: What matters to us
Ko nga tangata, te matua mahi
Putting people at the heart of all we do
Health is ultimately all about people. What's important around here is the way we care for and respect others, the responsibility taken for delivering outcomes, and going about our work with integrity.
Belonging Here: Becoming part of our story
Being part of the Canterbury District Health Board, you will enjoy a fantastic benefits scheme, the opportunity for flexible working arrangements and ongoing focus on your career development.
