Shout is a free, confidential, 24/7 text message service for anybody to text when they may be struggling with anxiety, loneliness or depression through to self harm or suicidal thoughts.Job SummaryTo provide online, in-the-moment clinical supervision and support to trained Volunteers/Clinical Practitioners (CPs) in their text conversations with texters on our UK 24/7 text messaging platform.Key ResponsibilitiesMonitor, communicate with and support people in their conversations with texters; continuously assessing for any imminent risk or safeguarding concern and reporting concerns as appropriateWork in partnership with the Clinical Team Leader and other supervisors to ensure that we allocate our resources to deliver the best possible service to textersWork collaboratively with fellow Supervisors on shift, providing support with clinical decisions about risk and safeguardingMaintain clinical records and complete any follow-up administrative work, and report any concerns to Clinical Managers and/or the Safeguarding teamSupport the skills development and the wellbeing of Volunteers/CPs, and work in close partnership with the Volunteer Support team and CP Manager, who support them off the platformMake decisions regarding immediate safety and risk around suicidality and self-harm, following internal policiesCommunicate with emergency services and/or external services to support Texters requiring immediate life-saving support or safeguardingTake conversations with texters to help manage service demand if requiredRegularly attend meetings, online or in person, including team meetings, one-to-ones, workshops and trainingAttend regular external clinical supervision with external personal Supervisor (paid for by MHI) with a minimum of one session per monthContribute to service development and continuous quality improvement within the organisation, including participation in ongoing in-person or online training and professional developmentMaintain membership, registration and/or accreditation with a relevant professional bodyAt all times, adhere to Mental Health Innovations and Shout's model, policies and procedures. and engage in a way that is reflective of the organisation's valuesPerson SpecificationEssential criteriaPsychotherapy/Counselling/Psychology/Mental Health Nursing or Social Work practice qualificationAccreditation/registration with the BACP, UKCP, BPS, NMC or NZAC, DAPAANZ, or equivalent relevant professional bodyClinical/professional experience working with risk relating to suicide, self-harm, complex mental health problems and safeguardingStrong administrative skills with excellent attention to detailExcellent IT skillsDesirable criteriaQualification in Clinical SupervisionExperience of working with children and young peopleExperience in working digitally with clients/superviseesStrong knowledge and experience of safeguarding, confidentiality and riskSound experience of supervising groups or individualsKey CompetenciesExcellent communicatorAbility to multitask and work at a high volume whilst maintaining calm under pressureAbility to make sound clinical decisions in a fast moving environment in response to high risk situationsDemonstrate a high level of resilienceAdaptable to the needs of the organisationSelf-motivated, hands-on, problem-solving approach, with a focus on effective and clinically sound decision-makingWillingness and ability to work independently (remotely), whilst remaining connected to and engaged with the teamAbility to communicate sensitive topics effectivelyReflective, compassionate, kind, and respectfulProactive in reviewing own performance, improvement and developmentGeneral Responsibilities of all MHI employeesTo keep up to date with MHI's work to enable the identification and maximisation of opportunitiesTo ensure that a high level of confidentiality is maintained in all aspects of working with partners, prospects, and Shout Volunteers, following MHI's safeguarding proceduresTo undertake training, as required, in order to carry out the duties of the post in an informed, effective and efficient mannerTo take personal responsibility for keeping up to date with and contributing to the development of best practice in ways of workingCommitment to high standards of service delivery and customer careTo carry out the responsibilities of the post in a manner consistent with promoting equality and diversity, and which demonstrates respect for allTo actively participate in regular team meetings, contributing to strategy, discussions and decisions which will be beneficial to the MHI activitiesWillingness to work flexibly in approach to work and/or work time requirementsThis job description is not exhaustive; it outlines the key tasks and responsibilities of the post.
