Provide assessment and rehabilitation of people who have experienced strokes and/or other similar physical disabilities

Our Purpose
When you work with the Canterbury District Health Board, you're part of something very special. We plan, fund and deliver health services to the almost 600,000 New Zealanders that live in the Canterbury region. Our primary goal is to put people at the heart of everything we do.
The Team
A newly established part-time position (0.45FTE) working with stroke patients and their rehabilitation teams across inpatient and outpatient settings.
This position offers a novel opportunity to promote timely psychological assessment, treatment and rehabilitation with improved continuity of care for adult stroke patients progressing through inpatient to outpatient community settings.
We are looking for a confident Clinical Psychologist or Neuropsychologist who is interested in working from the Burwood Hospital Psychology Department, to provide a range of psychological services supporting the multidisciplinary teams of the Community Stroke Rehabilitation Service as well as inpatient ward rehabilitation teams.
The patient group these teams serve spans a wide range of ages and diverse ethnic and social backgrounds. Such diversity provides a stimulating mix of familiar and novel clinical issues and challenges.
The clinicians of the teams involved in this initiative value psychological input and the development of this role and they are keen to support the new psychologist to assist with the continuous improvement of stroke services.
The Role
In this role, you will be responsible for the following:
Assessment and rehabilitation of people who have experienced strokes and or other similar physical disabilities
Administration and interpretation of neuropsychological tests and other relevant metrics
Provision of relevant psychological advice and support to multi-disciplinary teams
Assessments and interventions for a range of psychological processes, often associated with suddenly acquired disability, including grief and loss, anxiety states, phobic avoidance and depression, any of which may forestall adaptive adjustment and effective coping

Your skills will include the following:
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work within an interdisciplinary team
Superior time management and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise busy caseloads
A commitment to ongoing professional development
A minimum of a Masters Degree in Psychology with a Diploma of Clinical Psychology or equivalent
Registration with the NZ Psychology Board and current Annual Practicing Certificate is essential

Ongoing supervision and support will be provided by the capable and enthusiastic team of experienced Clinical Psychologists/Neuropsychologists who work in the Burwood Hospital Psychology Department.
