This role allows opportunities to engage and assist tangata whaiora presenting with a mental health emergency. You will love working psychologically with a wide variety of people with significant mental health challenges, using your skills in assessment, formulation, and psychological therapy. Within the dynamic Crisis Resolution Team, no two days are the same, so you will relish novelty, form good collegial and therapeutic alliances and be able to introduce focussed psychological strategies over a short time period. You will be well versed in assessing and formulating risk and suggesting community options for people returning to primary care management and/or therapy.
Being a new position within the team, you will work with your Clinical Manager to integrate this position into the existing MDT. This will involve developing robust pathways of care, contributing psychological opinion and being part of the morning MDT meetings.
You will be located at Crisis Resolution in the Fergusson Building at Hillmorton Hospital. This is a great opportunity to connect with the larger, supportive adult services psychology team based here. There is individual and peer supervision, journal club, and targeted professional development on offer.
Ko wai koe | About You You will be a New Zealand registered Clinical Psychologist with a current Annual Practising Certificate. Previous experience in the Adult Mental Health field is preferred but your other skill backgrounds or experience will be given full consideration. Working with people in distress, or within a crisis setting is also highly desirable. The position is a busy role where excellent interpersonal and organisational skills are vital.
You will be a clear, calm communicator both verbally and in written forms. You will draw on your mental health experience to deliver short term interventions to people under our care, and their families/whanau.
Experience with providing psychological therapies, such as CBT, ACT, MCT, CFT, DBT informed, or Motivational Interviewing, is essential. You will practise from a culturally safe, family- whanau inclusive, trauma-informed perspective.
You will be an active participant in our multidisciplinary team working closely with referrers and colleagues from other services or agencies.
