The details: Permanent Full time - 40 Hours per week
Scope to shape and build the role to meet the needs of those we support and the wider team Extensive internal training opportunities, to support skill development Access to clinical supervision Te whiwhinga mahi| The Opportunity This is a small and cohesive team with out of the square thinking. The team works with tangata whaiora who have serious and enduring mental health issues, co-morbidity, and complexity. These tangata whaiora have a history of re-admission, often live with psychosis, are socially isolated and stigmatised with poor support and have not responded or engaged well in the past with community MH services. The team works intensively with a small caseload with the aim of improving all those issues.
A psychologist with this team would have skills in engagement and rapport-building, could see past diagnostic labels, be patient, appreciate the significance of small gains, be an advocate and a consultant to other involved services.
Cognitive remediation therapy has delivered some great results for these tangata whaiora and a psychologist skilled in or motivated to learn this approach would be valued. There is a large community of psychologists at the service base offering good collegial support
Key responsibilities of the role: Provide assertive, creative holistic care with a strong recovery and strength based approach to tangata whaiora in varying stages of recovery Practice effectively with autonomy as well as being an integral part of a multidisciplinary health care team. Utilise technology for communication and documenting clinical information inclusive of a range of assessments. Have an understanding of risk and how to manage and mitigate this. Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi Proven experience and clinical skills in working with individuals who experience major mental illness and associated issues The ability to provide individualised client therapy The ability to work alongside community NGOs who provide direct care to clients The ability to work and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and the ability to work autonomously A strong recovery focus and trauma informed care approach The ability to provide an assertive, creative and flexible approach to client care, within a variety of settings to clients in varying stages of recovery Well-developed time management skills with the ability to co-ordinate personal and team tasks in an efficient and organised manner Computer literacy and the ability to complete documentation on time and to a high standard The mental health and addictions service deliver a variety of services across the Waikato region.
