Job Description Clerks Manager - Wellington Fixed Term Full Time Te Haeata/The OpportunityThis is a rare opportunity for an exceptional people leader to work at the heart of the administration of justice in the Office of the Chief Justice | Te Tari Toko i te Tumu Whakawa (Te Tari), managing the team of talented young legal researchers who work in the appellate courts.  The Clerks' Manager (Appellate Courts) is a new two-year fixed term role, responsible for providing tailored management support for approximately 20 young law graduates. Most clerks take up these coveted research positions directly from University. They are employed on two-year contracts to provide quality legal research assistance to Senior Court Judges.As well as providing on-site support and pastoral care, the Clerks' Manager will be responsible for ensuring the systems and policies are in place to assist judges and clerks navigate the triangular reporting relationship. They will be responsible for building high trust and effective relationships with the judiciary, registries, and the wider management team, to ensure judges have access to a consistently high and seamless level of support.Reporting to the Manager, Judicial Services, Associates & Clerks.  The Clerks' Manager (Appellate Courts) will be based in Wellington and oversee the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court clerks based in Wellington.  The role will work closely and provide support and back up cover for the Clerks' Manager (High Court) when needed. O pukenga/Skills and ExperienceNo candidate will meet every single desired qualification. If your experience looks a little different from what we have outlined and believe you can bring value to the role, we'd love to hear from you!Proven people management experience, particularly with staff early in career or in high pressure roles.A management style underpinned by the ability to achieve outcomes through influence, collaboration and partnering with others.Proven experience with managing a range of sensitive issues, performance and development, intergenerational communication, onboarding/induction, and career planning.An in depth understanding of the workings of the court.Strong written and verbal communication skills, and exceptional interpersonal skills.Proven ability to influence diverse and at times competing views to bring about culture change.Able to build and maintain positive relationships and effective networks across and within organisationsHigh degree of computer literacy, including intermediate knowledge of the MS Office suite.Ability to read, understand and interpret complex documents, including legislation, financial, numerical, and business information. Mo matou/About us The Office of the Chief Justice | Te Tari Toko i te Tumu Whakawa (Te Tari), supports the independent judicial arm of government.  It supports the Chief Justice, President of the Court of Appeal, and Chief Judge of the High Court, in their leadership and administrative responsibilities.The Judicial Services Team is responsible for managing and supporting approximately 60 clerks and 70 associates who provide administrative and legal research support for 71 judges within the Senior Courts across five court locations nationwide.These staff work under the direction of the judiciary: the support they provide enables judges to perform their duties efficiently and effectively.Judges support needs differ between individuals and between courts. They are also evolving in response to changes in the courts operating environment including changes in technology.
