South Wairarapa District Council (SWDC) is a small council supporting the people of Martinborough, Featherston, Greytown and the surrounding district.

The Corporate Services Group's primary purpose is to provide essential support services to the organisation in the areas of finance, democracy support, legal services, community development, human resources, customer services, information management and technology, health and safety, communications, and emergency management.
We strive to be an approachable, high performance, 'can do' team helping Council achieve its community outcomes by having an innovative solution focused approach, creating real value for our customers, provide high quality information to support decision making and meeting the needs of our customers, and having simple and easy to use systems and services to enable Council to meet its service commitments.
The role is integral to that.
The Chief Financial Officer (Finance Manager) is one of three Tier 3 Managers who report into the Group Manager, Corporate Services and has a team of 8 direct reports,
The role is seen as a trusted advisor to the Chief Executive, the Strategic Leadership Team and to Elected Members. You must be confident and comfortable in fronting formal Council meetings alongside the CEO on issues relating to the financial performance of Council operations. On invitation, you will also be asked to attend Strategic Leadership Team meetings to contribute to discussions.
You will contribute to, and when appropriate, lead, key Council deliverables such as Audit, Annual Report and the Annual and Long Term Plans.
Day to day, the person has responsibility for the efficient and effective management of the operations of the team. The portfolio includes Financial and Management accounting, Payroll, Rates, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
You will be a seasoned people leader who can translate strategy into action for their team. You will nurture them to give them the very best in employee experience.
The ideal candidate will have:
A relevant tertiary qualification in Finance or equivalent8 years plus experience in leading a finance functionA minimum of 5 years' people leadership and coaching experienceExperience working in the public service specifically in local government.Applicants must have a full clean driver's license and must be eligible to work in NZ.
