Important Company is proud to partner with Horizons Regional Council to recruit their Chief Executive. As the CE, you will be vital in providing vision, strategic direction, and operational leadership for the Council.
THE ORGANISATION:
The Horizons Region extends over 22,000 square kms - from Ruapehu in the north and Horowhenua in the south, to Whanganui in the west and Tararua in the east. It is a landscape as vast and varied as the over 250,000 people who call it home. At Horizons Regional Council we work together to make our place a healthy environment where people are thriving.
THE ROLE:
To be successful in the role, the Chief Executive will:
Act as principal advisor to Council regarding policy with statutory responsibility for implementation
Provide efficient and effective leadership, management, controls and operation of all Council activities in accordance with Council policy objectives
Provide strategic leadership to ensure Council vision, goals, strategic priorities, objectives and community outcomes are achieved
Represent Horizons at a regional and national level through quality advocacy and strategic relationship management
Continue the Council's current strategic work to meet future challenges
Key Accountabilities:
Strategic planning
Governance reporting and support
Implementation of council decisions
Administration
Management of council resources
Relationship management and communication
Staff management
Health and safety due diligence
Professional development
ABOUT YOU
Our ideal applicant will have the following experience:
Proven experience in a similar role
Experience working in or with local government or within the public sector is advantageous but not essential
A relevant tertiary qualification Bachelor level as well as formal management training preferably advanced formal public policy and business administration
Proven skills and performance in senior management based on the qualities of leadership and vision
You will also have the following attributes:
Excellent communication skills verbal and written
Strong leadership and coaching skills
Evidence of strategic and lateral thinking
A high level of interpersonal skills
Honesty, integrity and commitment to work for the benefit of the organisation and promote organisational ideas and purpose
A positive approach to change by responding to changes in job demands, adapt new strategies and create a commitment to change in others
The ability to handle conflict at individual team and group levels
Have an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ao M-ori
