Associates Manager

Associates Manager
Company:

Ministry Of Justice (New Zealand)

Details of the offer

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced people leader to work at the heart of the administration of justice in the Office of the Chief Justice | Te Tari Toko i te Tumu Whakawa (Te Tari), managing the specialist workforce who support our judiciary to perform their role. The judiciary depends on highly skilled legal and administrative support to perform their roles. The corner stone of that support is provided by Judges' Associates. We are looking for two outstanding people leaders to manage and develop this crucial workforce who operate nationwide. Associates work in a complex and dynamic environment under the direction of the judiciary. The two Associates' Managers are responsible for all day-to-day operations and ensuring judges have access to a consistently high and seamless level of support across the five Senior Court locations. At a time of rapid change, the Associates' Managers will also be responsible for working collaboratively with the judiciary, registry managers and direct support staff to anticipate how these changes will impact on the courts and the type of support judges require. Ensuring Associates have access to the appropriate resources, training and professional development to meet these needs will be an important focus for the Managers. Reporting to the Manager, Judicial Services, Associates & Clerks. The Wellington based Associates' Manager (South) will oversee the Senior Courts associates based in Wellington and Christchurch while the Auckland based Associates' Manager (North) will oversee Auckland High Courts associates. Both Associates' Managers will provide support and back up for each other when needed. No candidate will meet every single desired qualification. If your experience looks a little different from what we have outlined and believe you can bring value to the role, we'd love to hear from you. A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience, and a commitment to ongoing professional development. Proven experience in developing relationships at a senior level. Proven experience in managing, mentoring and developing staff. Experience managing staff in complex work environment including ideally matrix / triangular reporting lines Exercises sound judgement, sensitivity and discretion. Proven ability to influence diverse and at times competing views to bring about culture change. Able to build and maintain positive relationships and effective networks across and within organisations. Highly developed written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Advanced IT capability in a wide range of applications with the ability to quickly learn and keep up to date with constantly changing technology trends. An understanding of the workings of the courts. (desirable) The Office of the Chief Justice | Te Tari Toko i te Tumu Whakawa (Te Tari), supports the independent judicial arm of government. It supports the Chief Justice, President of the Court of Appeal, and Chief Judge of the High Court, in their leadership and administrative responsibilities. The Judicial Services Team is responsible for managing and supporting approximately 60 clerks and 70 associates who provide administrative and legal research support for 71 judges within the Senior Courts across five court locations nationwide. These staff work under the direction of the judiciary: the support they provide enables judges to perform their duties efficiently and effectively. Judges support needs differ between individuals and between courts. They are also evolving in response to changes in the courts operating environment including changes in technology. The small judicial services team is responsible for anticipating and responding to those changes, and for working collaboratively with the judiciary to ensure we continue to recruit, develop and retain a high calibre workforce capable of providing a consistent level of service and adapting to the rapidly evolving courts environment. Joining Te Tari means you will become part of an organisation that welcomes and supports people of all gender identities, ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, disabilities and religions. We offer you a range of benefits to support your wellbeing and help make Te Tari and the Ministry of Justice a great place to be. These include: 4.4 weeks holiday leave flexible work hours where possible access to a variety of inclusive and proactive networks With a wide range of jobs, you also get the chance to gain a variety of skills and experience while developing your career.
