Job Description Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity We are seeking an Animal Ethics and Biological Safety Manager to join our Research and Ethics team at our Office of Research Strategy and Integrity (ORSI). You will be responsible for providing high-quality support and advice to the Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) and Biological Safety Committee (BSC). This includes, but is not limited to, providing expert advice on university-specific governance policies, processes and systems; coordinating AEC and BSC membership updates; assisting with reviewing and pre-screening AEC and BSC research ethics applications and amendments; ensuring the timely preparation of meeting agendas and minutes; contributing to and maintaining oversight and management of the AEC and BSC ethics and regulatory advisory education materials and manuals; preparing and maintaining relevant regulatory reports and information as required by institutional policies or legislation; and ensuring compliance for AEC and BSC with all regulatory responsibilities. You will be working closely with the Animal Welfare Officer and the Biological Safety Officer under the Head of Research Ethics.
About the Research Ethics Team The Research Ethics Team supports the application and approval processes for research ethics applications for the University of Auckland Human Participants Ethics Committee (UAHPEC), Auckland Health Research Ethics Committee (AHREC), Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) and Biological Safety Committee (BSC). The Ethics Team undertakes regulatory reporting and compliance functions, and reports to institutional and external regulatory bodies. Supporting good decision-making of the ethics committees is a key responsibility of the Ethics Team, and the role requires the ability to provide high-level, expert advisory and support.

He korero mou | About you You will hold a Postgraduate qualification in animal welfare, animal ethics, veterinary
medicine, biological sciences, or other related field.
You will need to have had 4-5 years' experience in a research, regulatory assurance, animal ethics or
biological safety environment. Experience in the design of research projects involving animals and
development of animal ethics applications is essential as is experience with teaching and training.
