Who we are:

BestStart is New Zealand’s largest Early Childhood provider, consisting of 280 early childhood centres currently across New Zealand which employs over 3000 permanent staff and 1700 casual staff.

The opportunity:

We are looking for a qualified accountant to join us in a full time permanent position.

In this challenging, yet rewarding role, you will:
Carry out the month-end processing and prepare the month end management accounts
Assist with the preparation of the half-yearly and annual statutory accounts for audit and liaise with external auditors
Prepare the annual budgets for centres and BestStart
Prepare special purpose reports in compliance with MOE reporting requirements
Perform the treasury function
Ensure accurate and timely financial reports, budgets and forecasts are available to senior management
Conduct financial analysis
Carry out financial reviews and provide feedback
Prepare monthly GST returns
Undertake reconciliations monthly for major balance sheet accounts, notably; prepayments, creditor accruals, rates, GST, Associate Teacher payments
Undertake reconciliations monthly for major overhead accounts, principally; rent and insurance
Identify and promote systems enhancements, actively seeking possible improvements to the effectiveness of the organisations financial systems
In order to succeed in this role you will:
Be fully CA / CPA-qualified with up to date registration
Have previous experience in a financial accounting / management role
Have previous experience leading a finance team
Possess sound computer skills with high level of Excel capability
Have a strong attention to detail with proven financial and commercial acumen
Be self-motivated and able to work to deadlines and under pressure if required
Be a team player and culture builder
Ideally have some experience with the Charities sector
Have some knowledge of and experience with MOE licencing and funding regulations (this would be advantageous)
