About the role:
Our Regional Youth Forensic Service is looking for a full time Registered Nurse who has experience in Forensic and Mental Health. This Position is based in the greater Wellington area. The work scope is within the court setting, liaising with CYF's, Police and CAMHS, as well as other agencies. It is desirable that the applicants have an understanding of the CP (MIP) act and the Mental Health Act. Experience working with youth within the mental health sector is an advantage.
You will utilise your clinical and medico-legal knowledge and skills to provide quality rapid assessment of those persons identified as having or who may have a mental health and addiction problem.
We are a progressive service committed to providing a culture of ongoing professional development for staff through regular clinical supervision, excellent professional development and recognition programme (PDRP), regular in-service training and support towards external education.
Te Korowai Wharikiis part of theMental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability Service , 3DHB, which covers the central regions including Wellington, Manawatu, Whanganui, Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa and Tairawhiti regions. There are four specific areas of provision: Courts, Prisons, Inpatient settings and Community. This role is Wellington based.
In the Prison setting:
Mental health screening and assessment, case management and treatment
On release of the person from Prison referring the person to a Community Mental health Service.

In the Court Setting:
Providing advice, mental state and risk assessment, and recommendation to judiciary.
Liaising and informal advice to a variety of Criminal Justice agencies including advocates, Police, Probation Services and Corrections staff.

Duties:
Attend Hutt Youth Court and Wellington Youth Court to screen all young offenders
Offer court liaison between different agencies such as Oranga Tamariki, Police, Justice and Education
Assist with allocating referrals and court reports
Screen and triage young offenders who have not been in court yet and liaise with other agencies such as CAMHS
Attend meeting relating to the Regional Youth Forensic Service including a fortnightly Youth MDT and monthly Youth Offending Teams Meetings (YOTS)

Skills & Experience
Current practising certificate
On the proficient level of the nurses career pathway
Experience working in mental health and/or forensics
Experience working with youth preferred
Full drivers Licence
Effective communication skills
Knowledge of Te Ao Maori
