Emerge Aotearoa is a social services organisation providing a range of support services throughout Aotearoa, including mental health, addictions, housing, youth and intellectual disability. At Emerge Aotearoa, we refer to EVERYONE as whanau. Whanau is often translated as 'family', but its meaning is more complex. It includes physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions and is based on whakapapa. Whanau can be multi-layered, flexible and dynamic just like our communities and the services we provide.
Our service
We have two part-time positions (six hour per week and 1.5 supervision once a fortnight). This is a fantastic opportunity to have a direct impact on the lives of people in the community to help and reconnect whanau who are in need of support.
Warmline is a confidential, Free Peer Support Telephone Helpline where callers can call someone for support. Warmline is a special service; because all staff have, their own lived experience. We support whanau by practising recovery and peer support principles such as hope, meaningful roles, connection, worldview and mutual responsibility.
You
You will use your experiences and journey of your own lived experience to connect and korero with whanau who require support.
Whilst there is nothing average about this position, your average shift will go from supporting people on the phone to writing notes and entering call data in our records system. The Team meet once a fortnight for Whakawhanaungatanga and Group Supervision.
This is a perfect position if you are someone who is aiming to enter back into work after recovery.
Sometimes faced with challenges you will utilise your calmness and empathy to engage with whanau and be quick to think on your feet with how to deal with situations when whanau become unwell and are in need of support and at times advise of community organisations that callers can access for support that they need.
Being able to demonstrate assertiveness, accountability and compassion for people and encourage people to change is really important in this role. Could you see yourself in this role?
