Unit Manager Nurse Mentor Bougainville Volunteer Service Abroad VSA volunteers receive a living allowance and accommodation insurance and medical costs are provided Travel arrangements are organised and funded by VSA along with other costs Bougainville consists of two large islands and is home to a population of approximately 200 000 people There are twentyone distinct languages eight sublanguages and 39 dialects There is also considerable cultural diversity between locations making it a rich and interesting place to discover The people of Bougainville are extremely resilient Having emerged from a decade of conflict they are now focused on becoming a peaceful strong independent nation Buin Health Centre BHC services a population of around 80 000 people In this assignment you will work with the current staff at BHC to review current procedures and operations making recommendations to improve and strengthen the standard of clinical care as well as the overall running of the clinics You will ensure that best practice is observed and that the units are being well managed and maintained thus making it easier for the staff to do their job effectively and increase the standard of care Working alongside the nursing sister in charge the Unit managers nurses and midwives you will also be responsible for capacity building through one on one mentoring and more widely by developing an inservice training program This is a chance for an adventurous professional to put their experience into a muchneeded area of development We are looking for a volunteer with Nursing or midwifery qualification preferably with NZ Nursing Registration Willingness to apply for nursing registration in PNG if necessary Experience in managing a clinical unit or a similar environment Experience supervising trainee and inexperienced nurses This is a oneyear assignment based in Bougainville About volunteering with VSA VSA is New Zealands largest and most experienced volunteering agency working in international development We cover living allowances accommodation and utilities Travel visas insurance and medical costs are organised and funded by VSA Volunteers must be a NZ citizen or permanent resident If current VSA assignments dont suit your skills and experience you can register your interest with us and well let you know when something in your field is available
