The Massey AgriFood Digital Lab is committed to supporting New Zealand's export-driven growth base by extending biological systems knowledge with applications of emerging technologies, data analytics, and robotics. Our expertise covers agriculture, horticulture and a wide range of emerging engineering and data disciplines.
We are looking to appoint a fixed-term technical officer - precision agriculture for three years 10 months, and we are looking to appoint as soon as possible to ensure an ample handover and training period with our current team member who is finishing in May 2020. The position is a full-time, fixed-term position finishing December 2022 and is based in Palmerston North. Travel on the job will be required.
Key activities of the position are to:
liaise with shareholders - Ravensdown, AgResearch, farmers and other clients
execute survey planning and quotation
coordinate field work and assist in logistics
operate and maintain the hyperspectral and structure from motion systems
improve surveying procedures
assess meteorological conditions and execute aerial surveys
pre-process hyperspectral data (radiometric correction, atmospheric correction, and geo-rectification)
process structure from motion imagery and produce DSM and ortho-mosaic
troubleshoot issues
assist in post-processing of hyperspectral imagery
ensure software packages (Pix4D, Atcor, Caligeopro, Aviatrix and FlightPlanner Pro) are operating and licenses are maintained
automate GIS tasks as necessary for fieldwork and create maps for shareholders using ArcGIS
conduct and lead fieldwork using ground survey equipment
document all protocols and provide any technical support necessary for the success of projects
assist in developing new projects with existing and new clients.

If you are experienced in working with airborne hyperspectral image acquisition, have a minimum of a degree in precision agri, engineering, physics or a related discipline and you are self-motivated and have excellent verbal and written communication skills then please follow the link to apply for this position on the Massey careers website.
