This is a full time permanent (civ) position What you will do
The Technical Advisor is responsible for providing maintenance support policy and technical advice on operational maritime equipment. The role is also required to develop cost effective solutions that are operationally feasible and safe within the bounds of the Royal New Zealand Navy’s Maritime Regulatory Baseline, the New Zealand Army’s Engineering Regulatory Framework, with due regard to the principles of maintenance support and civilian legislation.
The position also requires liaison with all services regarding issues of integration and combined acquisitions.
What we need
We are seeking a technically minded person with a strong background in providing engineering solutions and support in the marine (or similar) environment. You will have a trade/engineering background where you have been involved in equipment maintenance, distribution or manufacturing. This experience will enable you to get to grips with the technical aspect of this role.
In addition to appropriate trade qualifications (desirable - Advance Trade Certificate/Level 5 Trade equivalent), experience in reliability centred maintenance is desirable. Good computer skills are essential with a strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite needed. Having technical experience with small boats and outboard motors would be a desirable attribute as is previous SAP experience.
This isn’t a ‘hands on’ practical maintenance role; the focus is on:
Providing technical advice to equipment users;
Creating technical documents;
Maintaining manuals and producing publications and maintenance plans; and
The development of equipment support solutions.
Strong communication skills are essential including proficiency in technical writing. You will have great interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to a wide range of people on an individual basis and within groups.
Please note: Some domestic travel is required and, as a new role in this location, there will be a requirement to attend occasional training in Upper Hutt (Wellington) particularly in the first few months of employment.

This function will be accountable for the day to day delivery of through life Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) management and in-service management of specific non-platform equipment enabling NZDF to meet its business and operational objectives to the appropriate technical standards in support of worthiness outcomes.
