We are Auckland's home of commemoration as well as the country's oldest research institution and a major tourist destination.DescriptionMo te turanga | About the roleThe Museum is embarking on a series of building works and gallery renewals leading up to the celebration of the 100-year anniversary (in 2029) of the museum being in our current building on Pukekawa, the Auckland Domain.
The role of Team Leader, Centenary Decant Project will lead a team of seven Decant Specialists and is responsible for the management of the project workflow.
You will deliver a schedule of gallery decant projects and maintain collection packing and storage standards for the physical care of collections.
This is a full-time position, for a fixed term period of 18 months.This role is responsible for:Overseeing and managing the work of seven Decant SpecialistsCoordinating the project workflowProviding mentoring and upskilling to your direct reports on the appropriate way to pack and store museum collectionsPack and re-house collection objects coming off displayDesign and create bespoke boxes, crate and mounts (3D) to house objectsWork with the wider project team to re-organise collection stores as required to create space to accommodate items coming off displayPlan and implement the movement of objectsCreate new database records and enhancing information on existing records with updated information on the objects coming off displaySkills And ExperiencesO pumanawa | What you will bringStaff management or supervision experience is desirableGood overall understanding of collection management disciplines is essentialExperience in setting team workflow and monitoring outputs to ensure project objectives are met is essentialDemonstrate awareness, sound judgement, sensitivity and cultural competency around tikanga and the handling of taonga Maori and Pacific cultural materialCollections database experience is essential, preferably in Vernon CMSExperience using mechanical equipment to access objects (e.g.
forklift, wave lifter etc.
