About the Centre
The Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre is one of the four centres that make up the Boroondara Leisure and Aquatic Facilities (BLAF), managed by YMCA Victoria in partnership with the City of Boroondara. We operate a wide range of programs and services to the community, which provides many opportunities for staff and patrons. YMCA Victoria is committed to providing the highest level of service to our visitors and career development for our staff teams.
Key Elements of the Role
At APARC we run a swimming and water safety program that caters to everyone! From infants and pre-schoolers, school-age and squad, right through to adults. We also have a large number of school-based intensive programs throughout the year. With work available 7 days a week we can offer flexible or regular hours, there's something to suit everyone.
The Swimming Teacher will:
Deliver safe, inclusive and productive lessons to all students
Display a commitment to continued learning and professional development
Display punctuality, reliability and respect in all aspects of your work
Selection Criteria
With our focus on outstanding customer service, we are looking for a friendly and bubbly person who is able to create and maintain a welcoming environment for our swimming lessons members. As part of a large team, you'll work closely with other swim teacher, supervisors and the Swimming Lessons Team Leader. Successful candidates will have
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
High knowledge of swimming strokes and skills
Adaptability to teach students of varying ages, abilities, behaviours and cultural differences
Passion for all things swimming and water safety
Qualifications
Mandatory Pre-requisite Qualifications
Austswim or equivalent Teacher of Infants & Preschool licence (preferred)
HLTAID003 Apply First Aid or equivalent
HLTAID001 Perform CPR or equivalent
Austswim or equivalent Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety licence
YMCA, including Boards of Directors, is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding Children and Young People framework. YMCA requires that all applicants undergo satisfactory screening prior to commencement, including but not limited to:
a national criminal history check
an international criminal history check where applicants have worked overseas
holding or obtaining a Working with Children Clearance/ equivalent in accordance with state/ territory laws
ACF Safeguarding Children and Young People Certificate (completion online prior to commencement)
Two reference checks.
Any successfully appointed applicant will be required to adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People framework, which includes a thorough safeguarding children and young people induction and committing to upholding the safety and wellbeing of children and young people throughout their engagement with YMCA
